Before You Apply
Before you decide to apply for a camp counsellor position at Camp Health, Hope & Happiness, you must realize that this job will be unlike anything else you have experienced. In most ways, that’s very good! The following list outlines some things you can expect from the exciting experience of working a summer at Camp Health, Hope & Happiness:
What you SHOULD expect as a summer camp counsellor (in any postition):
- To have fun – so much fun
- To make some of the best friends you’ll ever have – both among campers and other staff
- To learn new skill sets
- To have a summer full of action and excitement
- To feel appreciated and needed
- To develop the ability to adapt to change
- To be able to contruibute your ideas and be listened to
- To be treated like a young professional
- To be exhausted – and beyond exhausted at times
- To have little free time to yourself
- To be around others who may be very different from you
- To feel supported and encouraged by your peers
- To feel good about the work you’ve done
- To learn a lot about others and yourself – and to teach others at the same time
- To learn that you are far more capable than you ever imagined
- To witness human acts of courage that inspire you daily
- To gain more from the experience than you ever imagined possible
- To understand that the money you are paid could never adequately pay for all that you do
- To work hard, very hard in fact
- To laugh a lot; at yourself and with others
- To never understand how 4 months could go by so quickly
- To gain an appreciation for how fragile life is
- To be part of something magical
- To cry when it’s time to say goodbye
- To never have the same view of yourself, or life again
